      The world is losing its sense of humor and a mighty army of clowns is forming, baring their weapons of silly stethoscopes, bubbles, balloons and nonsense. What are they doing on the battle fields, in the hospitals, in remote villages of the world? All around the world clowns are emerging to serve the wounded human spirit.

Author's photo "Shobi Dobi" aka Shobhana Schwebke, MA, is a professional clown and the editor/ publisher of the Hospital Clown Newsletter. Shobi works as a hospital clown at Kaiser Permenante in Oakland (California) and presents hospital clown workshops internationally. She studied clown improvisation at the San Francisco Clown School; and mask making and mask theater at Dell'Arte in Blue Lake (California). She recently returned from a trip to China where she clowned with Patch Adams.
