2008 Our Featured Speakers

Cliff Kuhn MD has practiced medicine as a board certified psychiatrist for over 40 years.  Now, he wants to inspire you to spend more time “out of your mind” as a way to eliminate stress from your life.  Dr. Kuhn’s book, “The Fun Factor: Unleashing the Power of Humor at Home and On the Job,” has been described by Jerry Lewis as “the best how-to book I have ever read.”  As a speaker and trainer, Cliff offers his "HA HA HA Prescription" to individuals and groups.  It's a foolproof formula for getting more fun into and out of everything.

Patty Wooten RN, BSN, PHN is a nurse-humorist and an industry icon whose laughter, wit and wisdom heal the hearts of diverse audiences.  Her lifelong work with leaders in the field, such as Norman Cousins, Dr. Lee Berk, and other leading humor researchers and practitioners, has helped inform the world of the healing power of humor.

In 2002, AATH, of which Patty was a founding member, recognized her leadership in the field with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Applied and Therapeutic Humor.  Patty has published three books (Heart, Humor and Healing followed by Compassionate Laughter and Hospital Clowns: A Closer Look) and more than 50 articles about the therapeutic value of humor and laughter.  Audiences are changed forever by Patty’s fun-loving, caring and compassionate spirit.  She inspires hope and happiness in the hearts of all who share in a “Patty Moment.”

Ed Dunkelblau PhD is an internationally known speaker and consultant on the topics of Humor, Health and Emotional Intelligence.  He consults with school systems throughout the US and Canada on developing Social Emotional Learning programming for youth.  He also consults with Fortune 500 companies on bringing Emotional Intelligence and Humor to the workplace.  Ed’s work has been featured in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, USA Weekend, Jet Magazine, on CNN and on NPR.  He is a 2005 recipient of the AATH Lifetime Achievement Award in Applied and Therapeutic Humor and was just honored as the University of Kansas School of Education Alumnus of the Year for 2007.

Kathleen Passanisi PT, CSP, CPAE Speaker Hall of Fame and Past-President of AATH, is a 2003 recipient of the AATH Lifetime Achievement Award in Therapeutic Humor.  Kathy founded New Perspectives in 1987 to address issues in conscious living, stress management, and the link that exists between humor and health.  Her clients range from the Fortune 100 to major health systems, from pothole repair crews to married couples.  Kathy is the author of It’s Your Life—Choose Well and a contributing author of Humor Me—America’s Funniest Humorists on the Power of Laughter.  Self-proclaimed poster woman for the Sandwich Generation, she is the funniest woman in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri and possibly the Western Hemisphere.

Karyn Buxman RN, MSN, CSP, CPAE is a humorist and a researcher into the neuroscience and psychology of humor.  She’s an award winning motivational speaker who founded the HumorLab, an organization dedicated to the art and science of humor.  She’s the author of When Funny Means Money, and Laughing Your Way to More Money, Better Sex, and Thinner Thighs.  Like that other great American humorist, Mark Twain, Karyn grew up in Hannibal, MO.  “Unlike Mr. Twain, I’m not afraid to use my real name,” Karyn observes.

Greg Godek, best known for his 3-million-copy bestseller 1001 Ways To Be Romantic, has published 15 books on romance, including his latest release, Bring Food, Arrive Naked.  He has appeared on Oprah, Donahue, and The Today Show.  Greg is a former ad guy who quit the business world to find love and the meaning of life.  While traveling around America in a custom 36-foot RV, conducting the biggest book signing tour in history, he did find love.  He’s still looking for the meaning of life.
